Also called helical piers or screw piles. Most helical pile jobs in Massachusetts are sold by an installer working from a manufacturer brochure. Lebra Engineering & Design does it differently: one firm designs the foundation, sets the acceptance criteria, verifies the installation, and stamps the submittal — one number, one permit-ready package.
PE-reviewed · a written proposal typically within 1 business day.
Tell us about your site and what the foundation needs to support.
Under the building code (IBC §1810.4.11, adopted in Massachusetts as part of 780 CMR), a registered design professional is required to establish the acceptance criteria for a helical pile foundation before installation begins — the pile type, shaft size, helix configuration, minimum depth, required final installation torque, maximum allowable torque, tolerances, and termination criteria. That is a structural engineering deliverable, not a sales spec sheet.
Most deck-scale installers hand the building official a manufacturer’s evaluation report and hope it holds up at plan review. We hand them a sealed sheet, sized for your site’s soil and loads, with the field torque verification built in.
We discuss your site, structure, and timeline.
We evaluate soils, loads, access, and any wetland or zoning constraints.
PE-stamped acceptance criteria: pile type, shaft, helix configuration, torque, and tolerances.
Field records tied to pile location, depth, and final elevation as installation proceeds.
A single, coordinated package for the building official — no gaps.
Sonotubes and poured footings stop working the moment the ground freezes. Helical piles don’t — they install in frozen ground as reliably as they do in July. We pour footings in January. If your project timeline can’t wait for spring thaw, that’s not a limitation we work around — it’s a foundation method built for it.
Site-specific acceptance criteria, not a generic manufacturer brochure.
Design, torque verification, and stamped submittal from a single firm.
Frozen ground doesn’t stop a helical pile schedule.
The same team handles the foundation design and the ConCom filing.
"As a remodeling contractor, having a structural engineer I can actually count on makes all the difference, and that's exactly what we've had with Marcelo and George at Lebra Engineering & Design. We've worked with them for over three years and they're our go-to on every project that needs structural support. They're responsive, efficient, and — most importantly — genuinely available when we need them. Remodels never go exactly to plan, and more than once we've hit a surprise after demo that meant rethinking the structural approach. Every time, Marcelo and George have jumped in quickly to help us modify the plan and keep the job moving. That kind of reliability is hard to find. Highly recommend them to any contractor or homeowner who needs structural engineering done right."
"Efficient and Effective Load-Bearing Wall Removal I recently hired Lebra Engineering to design a steel beam for a load-bearing wall removal project with a 26' - 6" span. I was thoroughly impressed with their service from start to finish. They prepared the necessary drawings and calculation reports for my building permit application with remarkable efficiency. Within a few short days, I had all the documentation I needed. Their work was professional, accurate, and clearly demonstrated their expertise in structural engineering. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lebra Engineering to anyone needing structural design services. Their combination of speed, quality, and expertise made the entire process smooth and stress-free."
